Buy from Brandpa if you want a brandable .com with a logo at the lowest possible price, because its sellers set their own prices and older listings can drop as low as $495. Buy from BrandBucket if you want the more tightly curated catalogue and a longer track record, and accept that its prices are set by BrandBucket and cannot be discounted by the seller. Both bundle a logo, both offer monthly payments, and both are legitimate.

We sell our own .com, .ai and .io portfolio outright through Escrow.com, including more than a hundred names under $1,000. See the Brandpa alternative comparison for how that stacks up.

Brandpa vs BrandBucket at a glance

Both sites sell brandable names from independent owners, show a logo next to each one, and take a commission from the seller when a name sells. The differences that change what you pay sit in who sets the price, how installments work, and what happens if you change your mind. Everything below comes from each marketplace's own published help and terms pages.

Is Brandpa cheaper than BrandBucket?

Often, yes, and the reason is structural rather than a sale. On BrandBucket the marketplace appraises every name and the owner can only list it at that suggested figure or up to 20 percent above it. There is no way for a motivated seller to undercut. On Brandpa the owner picks the price, with a $1,000 floor for new listings, and after a name has sat for 30 days the owner can drop it as low as $495. Sellers who want a sale do exactly that, so the bottom of the Brandpa catalogue reaches further down than BrandBucket's.

Commission pushes the same way at the low end. BrandBucket takes 30 percent on anything under $10,000, and Brandpa takes 25 percent under $50,000. Both are priced into the number you see, so on a $3,000 name the seller is keeping $2,100 on BrandBucket and $2,250 on Brandpa. That gap is one reason the same kind of name tends to be listed a little lower on Brandpa.

Cheaper is not automatically better. BrandBucket's appraisal step filters out a lot of weak names before they are listed, which is why buyers who value the curation are willing to pay its prices. If you already know what a good name looks like, the lower Brandpa floor is worth more to you. If you want someone else's taste doing the first cut, BrandBucket's shelf is tidier.

Brandpa installments vs BrandBucket lease-to-own

Both let you spread the cost, and both keep the domain until you finish paying, so read the terms before you pick a plan. Brandpa charges the first installment to your card and then bills the same card every month for the number of months you chose. You can use the domain during the plan, but you do not own it. If you fall behind, the name goes back to the seller and nothing you have already paid is refunded.

BrandBucket's lease-to-own runs for 12 months, or 24 months on names priced above $120,000. It adds a 5 percent setup fee and a fee on each monthly payment that starts at 15 percent and slides down to 5 percent. You can cancel a lease at any time, but payments already made are not refunded. On a $4,000 name the BrandBucket plan therefore costs noticeably more than paying outright.

The practical rule: if you can pay in full, do. A monthly plan buys you time, but every month the name is still in someone else's account is a month you cannot move it to your own registrar, and a missed card payment can cost you the domain and the brand you have started building on it.

Refunds and what happens if the transfer stalls

BrandBucket's refund policy is short and strict. You have 24 hours from purchase, and only before the transfer has started, and even then 5 percent is kept to cover processing. The more useful protection is the other clause: if the name has not been transferred within ten days of your payment, you get the full purchase price back.

Brandpa holds your payment and the domain in escrow, which means you either receive the name or get your money back. Its help pages put a same-registrar transfer at under a day and a move to a different registrar at up to five days. Neither marketplace offers a no-questions return once the name is in your account, so do your trademark and social handle checks before you pay, not after.

Do both come with a logo?

Yes. Every listing on both sites is shown with a matching logo, and on Brandpa the logo files arrive by download link after purchase. Treat these as starter logos. They are good enough to launch a landing page this week, but they are not exclusive custom work, and if the brand takes off you will probably commission a proper identity anyway. When that day comes and you are rolling the new brand across the company, it is worth setting one email signature template for the whole team so every outgoing message carries the same logo and domain.

Which one should you buy from?

  • Brandpa if your budget is around $500 to $1,500, you want a .com with a ready logo, and you are happy to browse a looser catalogue to find the better-priced names.
  • BrandBucket if you want the stricter curation, you are comfortable at BrandBucket's appraised prices, and you like the ten-day transfer guarantee.
  • Either if you need monthly payments, but compare the total cost: BrandBucket's setup and per-payment fees add up, while Brandpa's plan has no stated fee but a harsh default rule.

If you are still undecided on the wider field, we compared the same terms for BrandBucket against our own catalogue and looked at Atom.com's record and commission tiers, the other big logo-first marketplace.

When neither is the right fit

Both sites are built around brandable .com names with a bundled logo. That leaves three kinds of buyer poorly served. The first is the founder whose product reads better on .ai or .io, which neither catalogue carries in depth. The second is the buyer with under $1,000 to spend who does not want to wait for a Brandpa seller to cut a price. The third is the buyer who wants to own the name outright on day one, with no plan and nothing held back.

That is the gap we fill. We sell our own portfolio rather than acting for other owners, so there is no third-party commission built into the price, and every card shows a buy-now figure you can also make an offer against. Browse domains under $1,000, our two-word domain names, or the .ai names for sale. The purchase runs through Escrow.com; our breakdown of Escrow.com fees for domain buyers shows every charge before you open the transaction.

Frequently asked questions

Is Brandpa legit?

Yes. Brandpa is operated by HostPapa Inc. and completes sales through escrow, so you receive the domain or your money back. Its main buyer risk is the installment plan: if you miss payments, the domain returns to the seller and nothing already paid is refunded.

Is BrandBucket worth the price?

It is worth it if you value the curation. BrandBucket appraises every name and blocks sellers from listing below its suggested price, so its shelf is consistent but rarely discounted. If you are confident judging names yourself, you will usually find a comparable .com for less elsewhere.

Can I negotiate on Brandpa or BrandBucket?

Both are built around fixed buy-now prices rather than negotiation. On Brandpa a seller can lower the price after 30 days, so an overpriced name may simply drop. On BrandBucket the price cannot go below the suggested figure. If negotiating matters to you, buy from a seller that accepts offers on a domain name directly.

Which is better for a startup, Brandpa or BrandBucket?

For a bootstrapped startup, Brandpa usually wins on price because its sellers can go down to $495. For a funded startup that wants a carefully vetted .com and does not mind paying for curation, BrandBucket is the safer shelf. A startup that needs .ai or .io should look beyond both.
