What BrandRoot actually is in 2026
BrandRoot started in 2012 as a marketplace for brandable names, and by the time BrandBucket bought it in June 2019 it listed roughly 20,000 names from around 1,000 sellers, according to DomainNameWire's report on the deal.
The site you land on today works differently. Its front page is a business name generator that only suggests names with an available .com, and its support page explains that buying a premium name takes you to "a checkout screen powered by one of our premium partner marketplaces", with payment methods that vary by partner.
That matters when you are about to spend money, because the refund terms, payment options and transfer timeline belong to whichever marketplace runs that checkout, not to BrandRoot. Read them on the checkout page before you pay.
