BrandBucket is a legitimate, curated marketplace for brandable .com names, and buying there is safe: your money is held until the transfer completes, and if the transfer does not happen you get it back in full. What a buyer should look at is the price, not the risk. Sellers pay a 25% to 30% commission on most names, which is built into the asking figure, the refund window is 24 hours with a 5% cancellation fee, and the lease-to-own option adds roughly 15% to the total on a typical name.

Before you pay BrandBucket's price, compare it with a name that has no seller commission built in

Every result shows a buy now price and an offer button. The full side by side sits on our BrandBucket alternative page.

This review is written for someone with a name already open in another tab. It covers what BrandBucket charges a buyer, what the purchase protection really promises, how the lease plan works out in dollars, what reviewers say, and where a different seller gives you more for the same budget.

Is BrandBucket legit?

Yes. BrandBucket has been selling hand-picked brandable names for well over a decade, and every sale runs through its own escrow team. Its purchase protection promises a guaranteed domain transfer or 100% of your money back, and its trust page says funds are released to the seller only after the transfer succeeds. Complaints about BrandBucket are about price, not about buyers losing money.

That matters because "is it legit" and "is it a good deal" are separate questions. The first one has a clean answer. The second depends on the name, the price band and whether you need the logo concept every listing comes with.

How BrandBucket works for a buyer

Owners submit names, BrandBucket's team accepts a small share of them, and accepted names go up at a fixed buy now price with a logo concept attached. There is no auction and no haggling on most listings; the listing pages say "no hidden fees" and "no haggle guaranteed". You pay the listed price, the escrow team collects the name from the seller, and it is pushed to the registrar you name.

The catalogue is almost entirely .com. That is a strength if you want a coined .com, and a gap if you are naming an AI product and want .ai, or a developer tool and want .io.

What BrandBucket costs a buyer

The buyer pays the listed price and nothing on top. The cost you do not see is the seller's commission, which sets how high that listed price has to be for the seller to make money. BrandBucket's tiers, as published on its seller side, are steep at the low end.

Sale priceSeller commissionSeller keeps on a sale
Under $10,00030%$2,100 of a $3,000 name
$10,000 to $49,99925%$15,000 of a $20,000 name
$50,000 to $99,99920%$60,000 of a $75,000 name
$100,000 and up15%$127,500 of a $150,000 name

Put plainly: on a typical $3,000 BrandBucket name, $900 of your money goes to the marketplace. That is the price of curation, escrow and the logo. Whether it is worth it depends on whether you could find an equally good name from a seller who does not have to cover a 30% cut. Our breakdown of premium domain cost by budget band shows what each price range buys elsewhere.

What is BrandBucket's refund policy?

You can ask for a refund within 24 hours of purchase, and BrandBucket's FAQ says it keeps a 5% cancellation fee to cover payment processing. Separately, if the seller does not start the transfer within 10 business days, you are refunded in full. On a $3,000 name, changing your mind on day one costs $150; changing it on day two is not covered.

That 24 hour window is short, but it is more than many sellers give. Plenty of aftermarket sales, ours included, are final once paid, so ask every question before you click buy rather than after.

How BrandBucket lease to own works

Many listings show a monthly price next to the buy now price. Under the lease-to-own program the name stays in BrandBucket's escrow account while you pay monthly installments, and you receive full title after the final one. You can cancel at any time, or pay off the balance early and have the name transferred straight away.

The convenience has a price. One live listing shows a $2,780 buy now price and a $267 monthly lease. Over a 12 month term that is $3,204, so the plan costs $424 more, about 15% on top. A 2021 Domain Name Wire report on the program's launch described surcharges of 20% on names up to $9,995, sliding lower on bigger names, with part of the fees taken up front, so read the current numbers on your listing before you commit.

Route on a $2,780 BrandBucket listingTotal paidWhen you own it
Buy now$2,780After the escrow transfer
Lease to own, 12 x $267$3,204After the twelfth payment
Lease, then pay off early in month 4Between the two, per the payoff quoteAt payoff

The terms we could read do not promise that installments come back if you stop paying, so treat each monthly payment as spent. During the lease you can use the name for a site and email, but it is not yours to move. If you are weighing monthly plans across marketplaces, our domain leasing page sets out how lease and installment plans differ from buying outright.

What do BrandBucket reviews say?

Reviews are positive about the service and mixed on value. On G2, BrandBucket averages 3.8 out of 5 from 13 reviews; buyers praise how easy it is to find a usable name and the clear fee explanations, and the most common complaint is that names cost more than expected. Older NamePros threads, mostly written by sellers, describe a loyal buyer base and a low sell-through rate, which is consistent with high asking prices.

Notice who is missing from those reviews: buyers who wanted a name in .ai or .io, and buyers with under $2,000 to spend. BrandBucket does not serve either group well, and neither shows up complaining because they leave before buying.

BrandBucket wins on the refund window and the bundled logo, and it is the better place if you specifically want a coined .com with a ready-made visual identity. We win when the name is .ai or .io, when you want to send an offer instead of paying the sticker price, or when you would rather your budget went into the name than into a 30% commission. AI founders usually start with our brandable AI domains for sale, short .ai names with several under $1,000.

Is BrandBucket worth it?

It is worth it when three things line up: you want a .com, the exact name on BrandBucket is the one you love, and the logo concept saves you a design fee you would otherwise pay. It is a weaker buy when you are still choosing between several names, because then you are paying a premium for one seller's shortlist. Comparing two or three catalogues for an afternoon is cheap; we compared two of the logo-bundled marketplaces in Brandpa vs BrandBucket, and the Squadhelp and Atom comparison covers the third.

Once the name is bought, the brand starts collecting a different kind of review. If you sell to customers, set up a way to ask every customer for a review after purchase from the first week, because a new name with no reviews behind it is the hardest part of a launch to fix later.

A buyer's checklist before paying BrandBucket

  • Search the USPTO trademark database for the word in your class. A clean name is worth more than a good logo.
  • Decide within the 24 hour window. After that the purchase stands.
  • If you lease, multiply the monthly price by the term and compare it with buy now. Ask for the payoff quote in writing.
  • Check whether the same word exists in .ai or .io for less. The brandable domains catalogue is a quick place to look.
  • Confirm the registrar the name will be pushed to, and have that account ready before you pay.

BrandBucket is a safe place to buy, and a pricey one. If the name you want is there and the budget fits, buy it with the checklist above. If you are still shopping, a catalogue where the price carries no marketplace commission, and where you can make an offer, is usually the faster way to a name you own outright.
